San Diego Rodeo Ban Would Threaten Tribal History and Culture

Once upon a time, the city of San Diego was pretty much a conservative city with Republican mayors and council members. That has apparently gone by the wayside as liberal lunatics have taken over and there is talk of an ordinance banning rodeos within the city.

Nearby Native American tribes call any ban on rodeos a threat to their history and culture. 

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported:

SAN DIEGO —  Local tribal leaders and charro groups are lobbying San Diego to put the brakes on a proposed citywide rodeo ban, contending city leaders have been duped by activists and need to thoroughly educate themselves.

While the ban wouldn’t apply to local tribes because their land is outside the city limits, they’re fighting it because they believe bans proposed recently in San Diego and Los Angeles could spread statewide quickly.

They say San Diego’s ban threatens longtime traditions because rodeos are a cultural practice with roots that have been intertwined with Black, Indigenous and Mexican American communities for centuries.

“The city has not equipped itself with accurate information to craft sensible, equitable policy, and we fear that it could lead to a dismissal of our cultural history and heritage in San Diego,” the groups said in a joint letter to the city. “In the spirit of inclusivity, we urge the City Council and its staff to participate in a dialogue and begin their educational journey on our practices and values.”

This really shouldn't come as much of a surprise. After all, we're talking California (i.e., Commiefornia) here.

California’s Gun Ban In Most Public Places Is Blocked Again

A new California law (a part of Senate Bill 2) banning weapons from certain places has again been blocked.

This time, it was federal appellate panel who did the blocking.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported:

SAN DIEGO —  The new year was supposed to usher in a controversial new California law tightly narrowing where people can carry firearms — including those licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

But instead it’s been whiplash, as courts grapple with a host of legal challenges by gun owners and advocacy groups.

A federal district court judge had blocked the law in December, calling it “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.” The state appealed his ruling, and a federal appeals court said on Dec. 30 the law could go into effect. It referred the case to a special 9th Circuit merit panel.

On Saturday, a federal appellate panel again blocked the law from going into effect. Arguments before the merit panel are slated for April.

The new law, part of Senate Bill 2, bars people from bringing guns to more than two dozen specific “sensitive places,” including parks, playgrounds, museums, any sort of medical office or facility, and places of worship — churches, mosques, synagogues and such.

NM Anti-Gunners Start 2023 Legislative Session

Lunatic Democrats are targeting our Second Amendment rights (again) in New Mexico.

A new bill was introduced by Rep. Patricia Roybal-Caballero that would make possessing high-capacity magazines a felony in New Mexico.

The Piñon Post reported:

On Monday, far-left New Mexico state Rep. Patricia Roybal-Caballero (D-Bernalillo) dropped the Democrats’ first anti-gun bill of the 2023 Legislative Session, H.B. 50. The bill is a magazine ban that would make violations of the bill if passed, felons.

The bill reads, “It is unlawful for a person to possess or transfer a large-capacity magazine within New Mexico, except when the person is: a resident of another state who transports a large-capacity magazine into New Mexico for use exclusively in an established shooting competition” or “a peace officer, in accordance with the policies of the peace officer’s law enforcement agency,” with multiple caveats. Other minor exceptions include being a member of the armed forces, certain manufacturers, certain armored vehicle operators, or those displaying such weapons in government-run museums or exhibits. 

It continues, “A person who violates the provisions of Subsection A of this section is guilty of a fourth degree felony and upon conviction shall be sentenced in accordance with the provisions of Section 31-18-15 NMSA 1978.”

The bill ignores the current status of similar magazine bans. 

In an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune of June 30, 2022, it stated such bans have been stayed by the U.S. Supreme Court:

In the New York case, the court’s conservative majority gave lower courts new guidance about how to evaluate gun restrictions. The justices rejected a two-step approach that appeals courts had previously used as having one step too many. They said courts assessing modern firearms regulations should just ask whether they are “consistent with the Second Amendment’s text and historical understanding.”

Sending other gun cases back to lower courts gives them the opportunity to apply that new guidance.

In its order Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to revisit its 7-4 ruling last year that upheld California’s law banning magazines that hold more than 10 bullets. The order adds to the San Diego-based lawsuit’s lengthy path through the courts.

A 2018 New Jersey law limits most gun owners to magazines that hold up to 10 rounds of ammunition instead of the 15-round limit in place since 1990. A lower court upheld the law.

Judge Denies Stay of Injunction Striking Down Ammo Law

California leftist Attorney General Xavier Becerra is filing an appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (formerly known as the "9th Circus" before President Trump appointed conservative judges) after being denied a stay of a court injunction.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported:

A San Diego federal judge refused on Friday to delay implementing the injunction he issued a day earlier that halted enforcement of a state law requiring background checks for ammunition buyers, prompting the office of state Attorney General Xavier Becerra to head to an appeals court. 

U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez issued a lengthy ruling Thursday concluding the state law requiring a background check for ammo purchases violated the Second Amendment rights of gun owners in the state. He also said a part of the law banning bringing in ammo from other states without it first being sent through a licensed dealer violated the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution. 

On Friday state lawyers filed a motion asking Benitez to immediately issue a stay of the injunction until they could file an appeal. State lawyers said the action was needed immediately because “ammunition vendors have already started selling ammunition without background checks, creating the near certainty that prohibited persons—convicted felons, violent misdemeanants, and others prohibited by law from possessing firearms and ammunition—will have easy access to ammunition.” 

But Benitez was not persuaded.

California's Gas Tax To Be Highest In Nation

It would cost me around $242 to fill the RV gas tank if I remained in Commiefornia.

Yes, that's what I would be paying if I filled the gas tank of The Beast in California. That is based on a photo I saw of a gas station's price sign of $4.39.

California is set to hike their gasoline tax on July 1. This is only because stupid people went to the polls to vote down an initiative that would have cut the tax and the hike in vehicle registration fees the Democrats passed in 2017.

According to ABC 7 News:

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- When the new gas tax kicks in July 1, California will have the highest gas tax in the country. 

The new gas tax will add an additional 5.6 cents per gallon of gas.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported:

The 5.6-cent increase represents the second iteration of Senate Bill 1, commonly called the gas tax, that was passed by the Legislature in Sacramento in the spring of 2017 and signed into law by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. 

Under the terms of SB1, the tax increase comes in stages. 

Drivers first experienced a 12-cent per gallon rise at the pump in November 2017. An additional 5.6 cents per gallon will be tacked on at the beginning of next month, which will boost the state’s total excise tax to 41.7 cents a gallon. 

Add in other state taxes and fees plus the federal government’s own 18.4 cents a gallon excise tax and Golden State motorists will pay 79.18 cents a gallon in taxes and fees whenever they fuel up. 

That will move California into the top spot in the country, edging past the 77.1 cents a gallon drivers in Pennsylvania pay in combined taxes and fees, according to state-by-state data compiled by the American Petroleum Institute.

California is increasingly becoming more and more inhospitable to residents, especially retirees. I am glad to have moved out of California a year and a half ago. The gas price at the local Flying J (New Mexico) is $2.59/gallon, but with my Good Sam Club discount, that is lowered to $2.54/gallon. Far better than Commiefornia's price!

This is the price one pays when a state is a one-party state (Democrats).

California Sanctuary State Resistance Growing

The People's Republic of Commiefornia has a major problem.

Several governmental entities are resisting the state's "Sanctuary State" laws by voting to opt out or notifying ICE about impending releases of criminal illegal aliens. This will likely put the Democrats who run the state into a bind.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune:

The clash between California and President Donald Trump over the state’s so-called sanctuary laws and immigration in general has been portrayed as a conflict pitting the entire state against the president, but now pockets of California are making it clear that their leaders do not agree with laws that shield unauthorized immigrants. 

California laws that went into effect on Jan. 1 restrain how federal agents go about detaining unauthorized immigrants for deportation in cities throughout the state. Trump’s justice department has since sued the state over its three laws — Senate Bill 54 or the “California Values Act,” Assembly Bill 450 or the “Workplace Raid” law and Assembly Bill 103 or the “Detention Review” law — arguing that they are unconstitutional. 

In recent weeks, some cities and at least one sheriff’s department in California are also pushing back against the laws. Here’s who is opposing them, and how.

If leftist California Attorney General Xavier Becerra decides to sue these cities, counties and sheriff departments, it just may backfire in his and Governor Brown's faces if the courts rule that the laws are unconstitutional. Grab some popcorn and sit back and watch!

I Like U-T San Diego's Ads!

Tonight, was reading the headlines over at the Drudge Report and a story on the families of the slain Benghazi Navy Seals caught my attention.

The headline was a link to the UT San Diego News website.  UT stands for Union-Tribune, one of San Diego's leading newspapers.

When I got there, I saw this:
