John McCain's Pallbearers: Only 2 Republicans

It is interesting to note in the list of pallbearers for Sen. John McCain, except for Phil Gramm and Tom Ridger, no other Republicans are listed among them.

Actually, it really shouldn't be a surprise. McCain has been a RINO for most, if not all, of his political career. In 2008, my vote for the McCain-Palin ticket was primarily for Sarah Palin. If she wasn't chosen as McCain's running mate, I would have held my nose and voted for McCain anyway as Obama was a Marxist.

The passing of Sen. John McCain has left me with mixed feelings.

I have full sympathy for his family and friends over his passing. But, I also remember some of the things he did as a self-described "maverick", most recently for being the one vote against repealing ObamaCare, which leaves us with much of it today.

He was strong on defense, but he always seemed ready to inject American troops in world hotspots.

While I think he would have been a far better president than Barack Obama, my 2008 vote was mainly for his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin.

McCain's career will be examined in the years ahead by historians and others. I'll just leave it at that.

A Thanksgiving Message From Nebraska's Soon-To-Be Newest U.S. Senator

Nebraska's Ben Sasse was elected to the United States Senate a few weeks ago as part of the enormous "wave" that swept out the Democrats and swept in Republicans. Thankfully, the financial support I gave him paid off. 

I received the following Thanksgiving message:

Dear Armand,

Last year, our family ate Thanksgiving dinner at the Days Inn in Kimball, Nebraska. It was incredible.

After a day spent with three kids on an RV, we checked into our hotel. I must have looked as exhausted as I felt because, as soon as we brought in our bags, the owners welcomed us to their own dinner—turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pies. Complete strangers opened their home and showed our kids what generosity looks like.

That memory will stay with us but that kindness is not uncommon. That’s Nebraska. Over the past year, our family met countless big-hearted, hard-working Nebraskans. You shared your ideas with Melissa and me and taught our kids what Nebraska values are all about.

This Thanksgiving, while we are thankful to be gathered around our own table, we are grateful for your support and humbled by the new vocation you have given us.

Washington, D.C. isn’t the center of life. It’s Kimball, Nebraska. That’s why we teach our kids to live lives of gratitude and service to their family and neighbors. That’s why we have an obligation to leave them a great, free, and opportunity-filled country. And that’s why we’ll work for a more humble politics next year in Congress.

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin takes a look at what's going on in Washington, D.C. and compares it to her experience with the entrenched corrupt politicians in Alaska whom she fought and won.

Over at Breitbart.com, her article is entitled, "D.C.'s "Corrupt Bastards Club"", but it could also have been titled "Why ObamaCare Sucks."

She lays it all out why the fight against ObamaCare must go on.

Here's a snippet:

So what was the GOP establishment’s game plan to fight this march towards socialism? They’ve been busy denouncing Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and their supporters, along with the good House Members who fought for our one chance to defund Obamacare. But what were the wayward Republicans’ alternative plans? They thought we could ignore the implementation of Obamacare and simply focus on some future electoral victories in the hope that some day the stars will align and we’ll have super majorities in the House and Senate along with a Republican president who would hopefully repeal this disastrous soon-to-be set in stone new “entitlement.” 

There’s a big problem with that scenario. It overlooks the everyday reality before our eyes. As Obamacare is being implemented, Americans can’t afford to pay for it. We can’t even sign up for it on the impossibly cumbersome websites, but the IRS will fine us for not doing so anyway! Obama gave his pals, and Congress gave themselves, tickets off this train wreck via waivers. Cruz and Lee fought for us to get the same relief the big guys got. The media and disloyal politicians turned on them and, divided, we lost. Now we little guys are stuck on this train, which will soon collide with hardship and real-world economics that don’t pencil out. Friends, by the time the electoral stars align for this hoped-for GOP hat trick the country will be out billions, if not trillions, more of our tax dollars and will have already begged D.C. to relieve us of this corporatist nightmare even if it means a socialized single-payer system. And once there, do you think we’ll ever go back and strip this “entitlement”? Unarguable history proves otherwise.

Forced enrollment in Obama's "Unaffordable Care Act" is weeks away. This beast must be stopped -- by not funding it. Today, Todd and I joined with many of our fellow citizens to urge those in the U.S. Senate to not fund Obamacare. 

We The People must continue to make our voices heard and hold those elected to serve this great nation accountable. Those in the Senate and those seeking to serve there must stand strong against this devastating program before it reveals its true face now recognized by both sides of the aisle as the bureaucratic and economic beast that will deny our families, our businesses, and our sick the ability to access health care.

Deb Fischer Wins Nebraska GOP Primary For U.S. Senate

As I have farm property in  Nebraska, I have been watching the Nebraska U.S. Senate Primary race.  Here's the latest (Source: Michelle Malkin's blog):

Nebraska state Senator Deb Fischer pulled off a surprise upset victory against Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning in the state’s Republican Senate primary Tuesday, marking the second contest in two weeks in which an establishment favorite was upended by a dark horse candidate in a Senate primary. 

Fischer, a rural rancher from the state’s 43rd legislative district, eked out a 5-point victory over Bruning, winning 41 percent to the Attorney General’s 36 percent with nearly all the votes counted. State Treasurer Don Stenberg earned 19 percent. 

As of just a few weeks ago, Bruning was widely considered the favorite in the race, and was expected to handily defeat Fischer and Stenberg to face off against Democratic candidate Bob Kerrey in November. 

Kerrey has been out of Nebraska since he retired from the Senate.  He's been out of touch anyway.

According to Rush Limbaugh this morning, latest tracking polls show Fischer leading Kerrey by double-digits.  Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin endorsed Fischer during the primary campaign.

 I am urging Nebraskans to support Deb Fischer for U.S. Senate.

Democrat Hypocrites Refuse To Return Maher's Contribution

A Super PAC supporting President Obama is refusing to return a $1 million contribution from Bill Maher.

Fox News is reporting today:

Current and former White House aides on Thursday rejected demands by a conservative group that a Super PAC supporting President Obama refund a $1 million check from comedian and talk show host Bill Maher because of coarse comments he's made about Sarah Palin and other Republican women.

While Obama earlier this week denounced similar comments that radio talk show host made about a college student, Sandra Fluke, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters the president is not going to get involved in the Maher battle.

Carney said "language that denigrates women is inappropriate," but it is not the President's place to be the "arbiter" of every controversial statement.

"He chooses to lead by example or tries to," Carney said of the president, adding that "he chooses to try to practice that civility himself and he calls on everybody to do just that."

Maher used the c-word, twat and boobs to refer to Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, yet the Left is giving him a pass and the Obama Super Pac, which is run by longtime Obama aide Bill Burton, is keeping Maher's contribution.

Kirsten Powers at The Daily Beast, who sees the hypocrisy, wrote:

Let’s just call a spade a spade: the uproar over Limbaugh is only because it fits into the Democratic narrative that the GOP is “anti-woman.” It’s Democratic Party activism dressed up as feminism.

That's not all. Democrat congresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee and Jan Schakowsky refused to condemn Bill Maher for calling Gov. Sarah Palin a “c--t” and a “dumb twat.”

Let's see how outraged they'd be if a conservative said those things about Nancy Pelosi. All this is just phony outrage against Limbaugh in order to shut him up and get him off the air.

Ironically, Bill Maher is supporting Limbaugh in this.

I received an email from my tenant who farms the property in Nebraska. He reports:

Summer is flying by, seems like we just planted the corn. It's about waist high and looks great.

I just hope it stays "great." Just in case of problems, I submitted the application for this year's crop insurance.

Palin Readies Multi-State Bus Tour

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is readying a multi-state bus tour, fueling speculation that she is going to be a Presidential candidate in 2012.

According to the Washington Post:

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R), who has been largely out of the public eye through much of the spring, will reemerge Sunday as she begins a national bus tour that will put her back in the spotlight and no doubt renew speculation about a possible presidential bid.

The tour, the first of what will be a series of such journeys over a period of weeks, will start on Sunday in Washington at the annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally and work its way north along the East Coast. She will visit other parts of the country later, stopping at symbolically important sites in the nation’s history.

Palin has been the target of relentless attacks by the Left and the mainstream media. One can always tell what GOP candidate they fear the most by the the amount of attacks leveled.

Geraldine Ferraro Dead At 75

I just received this bulletin from the Washington Post:

Geraldine Anne Ferraro Zaccaro, 75, passed away Saturday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by her family. The cause of death was complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that she had battled for 12 years.

Ms. Ferraro earned a place in history as the first woman and first Italian-American to run on a major party national ticket, serving as Walter Mondale’s Vice Presidential running mate in 1984 on the Democratic Party ticket.

That's really sad news. She was a Fox News contributor and was reasonable.

UPDDATE: Former Alaska Governor and V.P. Candidate Sarah Palin issued this statement:

My family and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine Ferraro. When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women.

Newt Gingrich: Obama Decision May Lead To Constitutional Crisis and Impeachment

The Obama Administration's decision to not enforce the Defense of Marriage law could lead to a constitutional crisis and impeachment, according to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Gingrich made his comments during an interview with Newsmax.TV.

According to Newsmax.com:

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obama’s decision not to fully enforce the Defense of Marriage law eventually could lead to a constitutional crisis, as he has directly violated his constitutional duties by arbitrarily suspending a law.

Gingrich even suggested that, if a “President Sarah Palin” had taken a similar action, there would have been immediate calls for her impeachment.

Gingrich said:

"His job is to enforce the rule of law and for us to start replacing the rule of law with the rule of Obama is a very dangerous precedent."

Sarah Palin Fights Back; Invokes Reagan

After days of enduring smears by the political Left over the tragedy in Tucson, Arizona last weekend, Sarah Palin has issued a video and posted the text on her Facebook page in response:

Like millions of Americans I learned of the tragic events in Arizona on Saturday, and my heart broke for the innocent victims. No words can fill the hole left by the death of an innocent, but we do mourn for the victims’ families as we express our sympathy.

I agree with the sentiments shared yesterday at the beautiful Catholic mass held in honor of the victims. The mass will hopefully help begin a healing process for the families touched by this tragedy and for our country.

Our exceptional nation, so vibrant with ideas and the passionate exchange and debate of ideas, is a light to the rest of the world. Congresswoman Giffords and her constituents were exercising their right to exchange ideas that day, to celebrate our Republic’s core values and peacefully assemble to petition our government. It’s inexcusable and incomprehensible why a single evil man took the lives of peaceful citizens that day.

There is a bittersweet irony that the strength of the American spirit shines brightest in times of tragedy. We saw that in Arizona. We saw the tenacity of those clinging to life, the compassion of those who kept the victims alive, and the heroism of those who overpowered a deranged gunman.

Like many, I’ve spent the past few days reflecting on what happened and praying for guidance. After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event.

President Reagan said, “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.” Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election.

The last election was all about taking responsibility for our country’s future. President Obama and I may not agree on everything, but I know he would join me in affirming the health of our democratic process. Two years ago his party was victorious. Last November, the other party won. In both elections the will of the American people was heard, and the peaceful transition of power proved yet again the enduring strength of our Republic.

Vigorous and spirited public debates during elections are among our most cherished traditions. And after the election, we shake hands and get back to work, and often both sides find common ground back in D.C. and elsewhere. If you don’t like a person’s vision for the country, you’re free to debate that vision. If you don’t like their ideas, you’re free to propose better ideas. But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.

There are those who claim political rhetoric is to blame for the despicable act of this deranged, apparently apolitical criminal. And they claim political debate has somehow gotten more heated just recently. But when was it less heated? Back in those “calm days” when political figures literally settled their differences with dueling pistols? In an ideal world all discourse would be civil and all disagreements cordial. But our Founding Fathers knew they weren’t designing a system for perfect men and women. If men and women were angels, there would be no need for government. Our Founders’ genius was to design a system that helped settle the inevitable conflicts caused by our imperfect passions in civil ways. So, we must condemn violence if our Republic is to endure.

As I said while campaigning for others last March in Arizona during a very heated primary race, “We know violence isn’t the answer. When we ‘take up our arms’, we’re talking about our vote.” Yes, our debates are full of passion, but we settle our political differences respectfully at the ballot box – as we did just two months ago, and as our Republic enables us to do again in the next election, and the next. That’s who we are as Americans and how we were meant to be. Public discourse and debate isn’t a sign of crisis, but of our enduring strength. It is part of why America is exceptional.

No one should be deterred from speaking up and speaking out in peaceful dissent, and we certainly must not be deterred by those who embrace evil and call it good. And we will not be stopped from celebrating the greatness of our country and our foundational freedoms by those who mock its greatness by being intolerant of differing opinion and seeking to muzzle dissent with shrill cries of imagined insults.

Just days before she was shot, Congresswoman Giffords read the First Amendment on the floor of the House. It was a beautiful moment and more than simply “symbolic,” as some claim, to have the Constitution read by our Congress. I am confident she knew that reading our sacred charter of liberty was more than just “symbolic.” But less than a week after Congresswoman Giffords reaffirmed our protected freedoms, another member of Congress announced that he would propose a law that would criminalize speech he found offensive.

It is in the hour when our values are challenged that we must remain resolved to protect those values. Recall how the events of 9-11 challenged our values and we had to fight the tendency to trade our freedoms for perceived security. And so it is today.

Let us honor those precious lives cut short in Tucson by praying for them and their families and by cherishing their memories. Let us pray for the full recovery of the wounded. And let us pray for our country. In times like this we need God’s guidance and the peace He provides. We need strength to not let the random acts of a criminal turn us against ourselves, or weaken our solid foundation, or provide a pretext to stifle debate.

America must be stronger than the evil we saw displayed last week. We are better than the mindless finger-pointing we endured in the wake of the tragedy. We will come out of this stronger and more united in our desire to peacefully engage in the great debates of our time, to respectfully embrace our differences in a positive manner, and to unite in the knowledge that, though our ideas may be different, we must all strive for a better future for our country. May God bless America.

Incredibly, after Palin posted her video response and the text, ABC News said, "Sarah Palin, once again, has found a way to become part of the story." I wonder how ABC could state this with a straight face as Palin was the first one blamed by the Looney Left, and it went on for days following the murders. In the same article, ABC even stated that Palin's video was a "rebuttal" to all the smears by the Left. ABC News speaks out of both sides of its mouth.

A deranged man shoots Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and several others, killing some, and the Looney Left tries to blame Sarah Palin and the Tea Party movement for the act.

Dems, Media Blame Tea Party, Palin for Shooting; Shooter Linked to Leftwing Politics

As U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords fights for her life after a mad gunman shot her on Saturday, some Democrats and major media have moved to pin the blame for her attack on the tea party movement and conservatives like Sarah Palin, despite the fact that the shooter was both deranged and fascinated by leftwing politics.

Giffords' Democratic colleague, Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva, told Mother Jones magazine within hours after the rampage that the “political tone and tenor” created by Palin and the tea party movement had set the stage for the shooting.

Grijalva said Palin's “apparatus” had put Giffords' and his own life at risk.

“Both Gabby and I were targeted in the apparatus in that cycle [saying] these people are ‘enemies.’” He added: “The Palin express better look at their tone and their tenor.”

The liberal New York Times was not far behind Grijalva, publishing a lead story headlined "Bloodshed Puts New Focus on Vitriol in Politics."

And, the article continues with:

Judson Phillips, the founder of Tea Party Nation, noted on his website that Giffords is “a liberal,” but added, “that does not matter now. No one should be a victim of violence because of their political beliefs.”

Indeed, the profile of the accused shooter, 22-year-old Jared Loughner, that continues to emerge is that of a deranged young man whose mind was deeply distubred, but who also tinkered with both anarchist ideas and leftwing politics.

Sarah Palin Moving Towards Presidential Run In 2012

ABC News is reporting that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is considering a presidential run in 2012.

According to ABC:

Sarah Palin says she is seriously considering a run for the White House, and she believes she could beat President Obama in 2012, the former Alaska governor told ABC News' Barbara Walters.

"I'm looking at the lay of the land now, and ... trying to figure that out, if it's a good thing for the country, for the discourse, for my family, if it's a good thing," Palin said in an interview scheduled to air in full Dec. 9 on ABC as part of Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People" of 2010.

Asked Walters: "If you ran for president, could you beat Barack Obama?"

"I believe so," Palin said.

This brings me back to 1975 when former California Governor Ronald Reagan was making noises about challenging President Gerald Ford for the 1976 GOP nomination. At first, Reagan was coy. But he eventually threw his hat into the ring and came within arm's length to beat Ford at the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. I was a California Reagan delegate at that convention and at the 1980 GOP Convention in Detroit, Michigan and the 1984 GOP Convention in Dallas, Texas.

Palin's statement goes much further than Reagan's position and it is much earlier.

Ford, of course, was defeated by Jimmy Carter. Here we have somewhat a similar parallel. Carter became unpopular due to his policies and his handling of the Iranian hostage situation. Obama's election in 2008 has been described as being "Jimmy Carter's second term." While their policies have some similarities, Obama is a pure ideologue (he believes in his policies), whereas Carter was a bungling buffoon. Reagan beat Carter in 1980 in a landslide.

While I am not saying that Sarah Palin is the "second coming of Ronald Reagan," but she also has a way of speaking over the heads of the media like Reagan did to connect with voters. She uses Twitter and Facebook extensively.

At the end of the 2008 campaign, I wrote "To Governor Palin" on this blog. In it, I made some suggestions:

1. Continue to be an excellent governor of Alaska. Build up your record of accomplishment and reform.

2. Travel. When possible, keep connected to the Republicans around the country. Visit foreign countries and meet with foreign leaders. Build up your foreign policy credentials.

3. Follow the Reagan Model: Start a political action commmittee similar to Reagan's Citizens For The Republic to express your views and as a platform for supporting mid-term candidates. Start a weekly radio commentary program. Raise funds.

On number one, we all know that Palin resigned as governor due to harassing lawsuits (she had to pay her own legal expenses out-of-pocket). While I feel that resigning was a mistake, I do understand why. Initially, she may have hurt herself politically, but seems to have bounced back.




On number three, she formed Sarah PAC to raise funds for her political travels and to support candidates during the mid-term elections. Most of candidates she supported won their races and she has accumulated a number of political I.O.U.s. She is a commentator at Fox News and her show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska" (above, right) was a record-setting ratings draw for the network carrying it.

On number two, Palin still needs to travel abroad to meet world leaders and educate herself on foreign policy. She has plenty of time to accomplish this. Reagan, during his pre-presidential years, traveled abroad frequently, sometimes as a personal envoy for President Nixon. Palin needs to build up her foreign policy credentials. I am pleased to see she has started doing so. Palin delivered world-affairs speech fourteen months ago in Hong Kong.*

At present, I am inclined to support Palin. Her views are a close match with Ronald Reagan's and she has a deft way of turning a phrase almost as well. Reagan's son Michael decribed Palin as a "reincarnation" of his father in 2008.

If Palin avoids any gaffes in the next several months, she has a good shot at the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. We'll wait and see what transpires.

Election Day!

Election Day had already reached the East Coast about an hour ago.

I am ready to hit the polling place tomorrow morning and kick some Democrat butt!

In California, Proposition 23 has to pass or we'll be seeing prices at the pump go sky high. Don't believe the leftist propaganda! I just hope and pray that Californians aren't stupid.

The Democrats may try some voter fraud here and there, but if conservatives go out and vote in massive numbers, no amount of fraud can withstand a juggernaut!

Locally, fingers are crossed that Mark Reed pulls off a miracle and beats Brad Sherman for congress. I saw many Reed workers out on the streets in Tarzana today.

Sarah Palin Fires Zinger At Obama

Former Gov. Sarah Palin fired a zinger across President Obama's bow while on a campaign swing through West Virginia.

She was talking about her show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska" and she joked that the producers of her show are thinking about another one: "Barack Obama's Golf Courses."

She noted that he'll have plenty of time on his hands after the 2012 elections.
