Trump Administration Reverses National Park Job Cuts

When I first heard about the national parks job cuts by the Trump Administration, my immediate reaction was that of many others: a stupid idea.

Well, fortunately, the Administration has reversed itself on this.

According to RV Travel:

After threatening to cut thousands of jobs at National Parks, the Trump Administration has backed off following widespread protests. “I make just over $40,000 a year; scrape sh*t off toilets with a putty knife nearly every day,” Yosemite maintenance worker Ilek Chmura told the L.A. Times after he was notified his job was eliminated. “Somehow, I’m the target.

“We lost our whole custodial staff in this part of the park,” he explained. “That will impact what people see, and it will be embarrassing if people come to this site and see it’s just full of trash.”

In response to public outcry and a media campaign from outdoor enthusiasts, the administration has now reconsidered its plan to eliminate thousands of seasonal jobs at the National Park Service. Last month, seasonal employees — responsible for tasks like collecting fees, cleaning trails and restrooms, and assisting injured hikers — had their job offers rescinded for the 2025 season.

This week, a memo from the Department of the Interior stated the agency could hire 7,700 seasonal employees this year, up from about 6,300 in recent years.

No Temp Forest Service Jobs In 2025 Season

Since my subdivision is right next to the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, the following story in RV Travel caught my attention.It looks like there will be no temporary jobs available for fiscal year 2025.

They start their story with:

Are you used to seeing Forest Service workers? They may be doing campground maintenance, improving trails, or working to prevent a wildfire. Many of these folks are temporary workers, hired on a seasonal basis. In a surprising move, no Forest Service temp jobs will be available for the Service’s fiscal year 2025. And that doesn’t mean sometime in January: the fiscal year begins in October. What’s behind the hiring freeze, and what effects will come from it?

Hopefully, we won't be seeing trash strewn all over the place in our national forests, especially in the campgrounds because of this.

Planters is searching for three people to join its team for a one-year gig chauffeuring Mr. Peanut around the country, and bringing nuts to events and festivals, in the one-of-a-kind “NUTmobile.”

Applications are now being accepted to join Mr. Peanut as a member of the Peanutter team that will travel across the country and represent the company at community gatherings and media events.

The company says it’s looking for crewmembers, aka “Peanutters,” in search of “life’s next nutty adventure.”

“From being the grand marshals of parades to making appearances at community events and grand openings, our Peanutters are fun-loving ambassadors of the iconic Planters brand,” said Patrick Horbas, the company’s director of marketing.

This is the third “class” of Peanutters, Horbas said, and this year’s crop will be tasked with “bringing smiles and joy to millions of people they meet every year.”

While the job title is a bit out-of-the-shell, a Peanutter is a real position with responsibilities and hiring requirements.

L.A. Times: New Mexico Gov. Lujan Grisham and Democrats "In For A Walloping"

My former employer (circulation department), the Los Angeles Times, says New Mexico Governor "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham and the Democrats are "in for a walloping" this coming November during the general election.

In a recent Los Angeles Times article written by columnist Mark Z. Barabak, he chides Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham over her failures in office and gives insight from an outsider into why Republicans have a shot at winning back the New Mexico Governor’s Mansion. 

In the article, Barabak notes how abortion has become a hot-button issue in New Mexico but how Republican Mark Ronchetti has attempted to put Lujan Grisham on the defense due to her support for abortion up to birth policies.

He writes, “Some of the difficulty is Grisham’s doing, a result of scandals involving her personal use of public funds and a sexual harassment settlement she paid to a former staffer. But much of her vulnerability arises from issues like crime, the economy and Biden’s drag on Democrats across the country.”

Let's not forget the over 40% of small businesses that were permanently shuttered in New Mexico due to Lujan Grisham's orders during the pandemic that killed thousands of jobs, her war on the oil industry in the state and support of the "green energy fantasy". She danced in the streets like a buffoon while people suffered.

Grand Canyon Generated $710 Million For Local Economy

National parks are great assets to the country. Besides preserving scenic and historic places, national parks generate revenue and jobs for local economies.

A report was released yesterday that showed what Grand Canyon National Park generated for the local economy in 2021.

KTAR News reported:

PHOENIX — Tourism in Grand Canyon National Park brought in $710 million for the local economy in 2021, according to a report released Monday.

The park’s 4.5 million visitors last year spurred the spending and supported nearly 9,500 jobs in the area, the peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis conducted by economists at the National Park Service and the U.S. Geological Survey revealed.

“Grand Canyon is proud to be welcoming back more visitors from across the country and world since the beginning of the pandemic,” Superintendent Ed Keable said in a press release.

RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce has warned the governor, state leaders and a national audience that New Mexico’s essential oil and gas industry is seriously being threatened. 
 
While Gov. Lujan Grisham sits idle, like a motionless drilling site, the Governors of Texas and Oklahoma have taken action to save their state’s energy jobs. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed an order to combat Biden’s policies and is pursuing aggressive legal action. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has also signed an order to protect his state from federal overreach.
 
New Mexico’s Governor does nothing. She’s AWOL.
 
Gov. Lujan Grisham refuses to fight for these important jobs in New Mexico in a multi-billion dollar industry that provides 100,000 jobs, more than 40% of the state’s budget revenues and contributes more than a billion dollars annually to our public schools. Students and teachers depend on this vital funding.
 
She’s not only letting down workers but New Mexico students and teachers.
 
“The governor again shows a lack of courage and is turning a blind eye to her people and the problems of New Mexico,” says RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce. “The domino effect of ignoring the fate of the oil and gas industry will lead to further catastrophe. Students are already falling behind because of the pandemic, but the Governor is making things worse by failing to fight against a Biden agenda that will hurt New Mexico workers, teachers and students. It’s obvious the state’s needs and its citizens are not the Governor’s priorities.”
