Reality Winner Sentenced To More Than Five Years

Leaker Reality Winner was sentenced to more than five years for leaking a classified report to the media.

Fox News reported:

Former National Security Agency contractor Reality Winner on Thursday was sentenced to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to leaking a classified report with information on Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election. 

Winner, 26, was sentenced to 63 months, with no fine in a Georgia courtroom. She received an additional three years of supervised release. 

The prisoner's mom had tears streaming down her face as the sentence was read. Winner appeared in court wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Leaker Reality Winner Denied Bail

It looks like national security leaker Reality Winner (good name for a racehorse) is going to be sitting in the tank for quite a while. A federal judge denied bail.

The Washington Post reported:

A federal judge on Thursday denied bail to Reality Leigh Winner, the 25-year-old Georgia woman accused of leaking classified information to the media, after prosecutors argued she remains a flight risk, a threat to the public and could possibly leak more government documents. 

Winner, a National Security Agency contractor and former Air Force linguist, pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court to a federal charge of gathering, transmitting or losing defense information, a felony offense under the Espionage and Censorship Act, according to the Associated Press. 

She is the first person charged with leaking classified information during the Trump administration, which has called repeatedly for investigations into media reports on leaked intelligence. If convicted, Winner could face up to 10 years in prison.

Govenment Contractor Arrested For Leaking Classified Material

A government contractor has been arrested for leaking a classified government document to a news outlet.

The Daily Wire reported:

On Monday, the Department of Justice charged a young female contractor from Augusta, Georgia, with removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet. 

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, was arrested by the FBI at her home on Saturday, June 3. 

Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein stated, “Exceptional law enforcement efforts allowed us quickly to identify and arrest the defendant. Releasing classified material without authorization threatens our nation’s security and undermines public faith in government. People who are trusted with classified information and pledge to protect it must be held accountable when they violate that obligation.”
