The historic Harajuku Station in Tokyo is to be rebuilt, according to sources.
The Japan Times reported:
East Japan Railway Co. is planning to rebuild the Harajuku Station building in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, according to sources.
The number of foreign tourists using the station has increased, and more visitors are expected to use it in 2020, when some Olympic events will be held at nearby Yoyogi National Gymnasium.
Sources said Monday that JR East aims to open the rebuilt station in time for the 2020 Summer Games.
The new station building is expected to be built to the south of the current building, the sources said.
