McKinley County Office of Emergency Management's Post

How much rain and snow are we going to get in McKinley County this week? That is currently unknown and any forecasts are on the speculative side.

The McKinley County Office of Emergency Management posted this on Facebook:

We know that everyone has been eagerly awaiting more information about this week's chances of precipitation. Did anyone loose sleep because of all of the anticipation? No? Thats ok, we didn't either.
Rain chances over most of McKinley County will increase this (Tuesday) evening and peak during the overnight hours before tapering back off through Wednesday.
Temeratures are forecast to remain above freezing tonight, but mountain areas could be closer to the freezing mark.
Rain chances will once again increase Wednesday evening through Thursday evening where precipitation will start to wind down through the overnight hours. Temperatures will vary based on location in the county and the elevation. As a baseline the Gallup temperatures are forecast to be in the low 50's on Wednesday and a low around the freezing mark on Wednesday night. Thursday will be in the low 40's and Thursday night lows in the mid 20's.
Thursday morning and Thursday night look to be the best chances of snow for the lower and mid elevation across the county. Higher elelvations could see some snow at other times as well. It is still too early to know what snow accumulations might be, but they look to be on the low side.
These precipitiaton chances are due to two different systems that will be moving over the area this week. The first will be a warmer system, but the second looks to be colder. Ultimately it depends on when and where the low pressure system and the cold meet.
Bottom line is that rain looks likely and snow is possible at times. We will monitor the forecast and provide more information as the forecast continues to be fine tuned. Take time now to ensure you, your family, neighbors, elders, and pets/livestock are ready for the weather.
Attached are some graphics from the NWS in Albuquerque that give some additional forecast information.

Since my home is located at 7,000 feet and in a mountainous area, chances are that we'll get some snow.
