The Odyssey of Trigger and Bullet

Above, Trigger and Bullet at the John Wayne: An American
Experience exhibit in Fort Worth, Texas. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

It was a surprise, and a bit of a treat, to see Roy Rogers's beloved horse Trigger and dog Bullet on display in the gift shop of the new John Wayne: An American Experience exhibit at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

They had an interesting odyssey after Roy and Dale passed away and the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum in Victorville, California closed down and moved to Branson, Missouri.

Trigger's hide was professionally stretched over a foam likeness and was put on display in the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Museum.

Trigger was moved with the museum from Apple Valley to nearby Victorville, California in 1976, and then to Branson, Missouri in 2003. When the Branson museum closed in 2009, the museum's contents went on the auction block. Everything was sold, resulting in a sale of $2.9 million.

RFD-TV is the current owner of Trigger (I'm not sure who owns Bullet).

Roy Rogers starred with John Wayne and Claire Trevor in Dark Command (1940).
