Project Barking Spider Acre

Since we are nearing summer and increased fire danger, it was about time to cut down the brush that had accumulated over the years in the Barking Spider Acre.

Jamestown friends Nandoh and Bo came over with their cutting equipment and turned the brushy acre into almost a golf course. We had a few rain sprinkles during the cutting, which helps to keep the dust down.

Here's what the acre looked like before the cutting:

Above, I would hazard a guess that the acre hadn't been cut for many years. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Nandoh started it by cutting the area on the side where the GOCO Beast Barn sits. He has a Bad Boy MZ Magnum 54 in. Zero-Turn Mower. Now that the brush has been cut down, I will probably buy one of these to keep it under control from here on.

During the mowing, I stood by with my .38 Special revolver loaded with snake shot ammo just in case a rattlesnake turns up. None did, which was a surprise.

After a while, we were joined by my neighbor Bo from across the street in his 1956 Ferguson tractor "Edith" with cutter. He took care of the other half of the acre with it in short order (his cutter is almost three times as big as Nandoh's).

Now the acre looks almost like a golf course (Barking Spider Country Club?) and could almost accommodate a clampout.

Quite a bit of difference from before.
