Winterizing For A Coming 18° Temperature

Above, after winterizing The Beast, it is back inside the GOCO Beast Barn. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

Today has been a bit busy.

Since I found that we will be seeing a low temperature of 21° Thursday night, I had to get The Beast prepared for the freezing temperature. This will continue for at least two more nights after.

While at coffee this morning in Denny's at the Flying J, we discussed this and I took a look at The Weather Channel app and they forecast 18° Thursday night. Yikes!

So, that got me to get the holding tanks and the fresh water tank emptied. Thankfully, Bo across the street has a RV sewer dump. A former resident had a house trailer there and it was used for that.

I emptied the tanks and then headed to Gallup after putting The Beast back into the GOCO Beast Barn to get some holding tank anti-freeze. Even though the tanks are empty, there are elbow joints in the piping and the anti-freeze will prevent any water accumulated there from freezing up.

It appears the word about the freezing temperatures got out. First, I stopped at AM Appliance & Mobile Home Supply for the anti-freeze (and a couple of other things. Unfortunately, they were sold out of anti-freeze. But I did get two other items I was after (a rear bumper end cap to replace one that fell off and a sewer waster valve cap that will replace one that has one fastener "tooth" broken off).

I asked who else in town has anti-freeze and they recommended Gallup Lumber Supply (basically an Ace hardware store). I went there and they, too, were sold out.

I paused for a bit thinking on what other store in town has holding tank anti-freeze. Then I remembered that Tractor Supply Co. may have it. So I went there.

Thank goodness I went tp Tractor Supply Co. as they had four one gallon jugs left. All I needed was one and got it.

After getting home, I poured the anti-freeze into the kitchen and bathroom sink drains. So now I am all set for the frigid weather that's coming.

Brrr!
